There are some days I’m really bored with the uggly weather we have here in Berlin: it’s wet, it’s cold, it’s dark and it’s cloudy. Those are the days I’m thinking about holidays, sea, sun, mojitos and electronic music on the beach. I want sun & balearic beats!
The video below shows Mathieu Berthet, audio engineer in Paris, specialized in vinyl mastering ; he shows us quickly the successive steps to proceed to the vinyl mastering of a track, before its sending to the pressing plant:
Step 1. Premastering. Tthe goal is to enhance and improve the overall quality of the sound (equalization, compression, and spatialization)
Step 2. The track is cut on a vinyl support (laquers)
Step 3. The lacquers are put in a box and are going to the pressing plant. (Celebrate, Optimal Media, MPO, Record Industrie … ) Read more

I remember the first time I plugged in this mixer, ouch!
A moment ago a very close friend, probably my best friend, who’s now running a cool dj shop in Paris among other activities told me he got an old but amazing second hand mixer for sale. Urei 1620 he said. I immediately googled it and the first video I found is the one below. This made me laugh a lot at first but also somehow catched my attention so I decided to check this funky stuff the next day, very curious but also very sceptical, especially when I saw how basic the unit looks like. So we plugged it very quickly in the studio and played a few 12′, and wow! In love at first kick! Read more
Long time I haven’t seen a new mixer that excites me … actually it’s been ages but lately I found out there’s a company in Japan making their own mixer. Alpha Musique is well known for repairing & refurbishing original Urei 1620′s in Japan. They studied the legend inside and out & I would guess the sound of the Model-4100 Music Mixer is very close to the original Urei 1620.
For the first time Ramos’ documentary puts into perspective the period of time spanning the late 60s into the early 80s when New York City saw the birth of the Underground Dance Music Culture, a musical and a cultural movement that deeply impacted social rules and ultimately set the groundwork for the Chicago House Music scene, the Disco era and present day global DJ Culture.
