24 renowned Typographers, Designers and Artists came together as a tribute to the vinyl record, refering to their interpretation to the clockwerk and the sign o’ times.
Artists in the line up included, ALIFE, Michael Leon, Jonathan Zawada, Alex Trochut, Jeremyville, Andy Howell, COLLIDER, Marok and Jonhatan Zawad to name a few. With the increasing consumption of digital music, disused vinyl records sometimes gather dust the worl over, many of which lie in scratched piles at book exchanges, permanently abandoned a long time. Relics? Old records were emblazoned with beautiful typography or logos unique to a moment in time and genre specific. The inspiration behind this project concept was to focus on the record as a medium to create a renewed functionality. Turning the records into laser etched time pieces added purpose to objects which had otherwise become obsolete.
We’ve missed the exhibition, but the flickr set is amazing. Read more

Los Angeles based designer, Charles Pyott, realized this funny record player. This was a quick project he did to create a small portable record player for the casual vinyl crowd. The main innovation is a space saving design that “clamps” the record into place instead of using the traditional platter layout. The inspiration for the design was to use flowing lines that gave the impression of passing through the record with bright colors to underscore a fun product that was not made for the DJ or Audiophile. Nice gadget! Read more

The Physical Value of Sound (Solo Exhibition in Clear Gallery, Tokyo, Japan, 6th March-16th May 2009) consists of series of products which allow people to realize the physicality of music.
Recently, the media that surround us has changed from analog to digital — for instance, photography, film and music. These days, most sounds are recorded only digitally. Yuri Suzuki feels uneasy about digitalisation of music because he wonders if they will survive to next generation. Digital based music media is just “data”, in other words, “virtual”. When objects lose physicality, they turn into virtual. Read more
A new beauty in the studio! Bozak CMA 10-2DLC ground up rebuild by Buzzy Beck himself.
The Bozak DLC mixer itself is the rarest and most sought after unit ever produced by the original company. A total of less than 20 are known to exist world wide with most being built by the original designer Buzzy Beck. The unit we have now in the studio is the rarest of the DLC mixers ever offered that is a complete, ground up rebuild. This mixer incorporates a smudge proof style chassis that was never produced and was only used in the mixer line on prototypes and show items. This chassis is the same material used on the HB-1-8A prototype mixing units that were never put into production. This style chassis was designed to last a life time without marking the way all prior model mixers did from finger prints, moister, etc. This process was used on some of the very late produced consumer electronics offered by Bozak. Time ran out for the company and so did the chance to offer this upgraded chassis quality in the mixer line. This mixer has another rare feature with the addition of a set of matching front end cards and tone controls. The Phono, Microphone, Tone Control, and Summing Amp cards are all from the same series unit and insure the complete audio reproduced sound that people come to expect from the earlier mixers. This feature along with the addition of the latter style 28db audio line cards produces a mixer with unsurpassed sound quality.
From everything I’ve played so far, this mixer is, together with the Urei 1620, my absolute favorite. I fall in love with the Urei because of its punch, then later on I added external preamps to my setup to get a better sound definition. With this bozak: no need to add anything, just play! Read more

To be ready for anything, armed with a thirst for knowledge and the desire to explore the frontiers of sound and rhythm. The best possible attitude, actually. In the meantime, here are the maps to the exploration: on Dissonanze homepage, you’ll now find the coordinates and the flavours of all the acts that will take place in the two days of Dissonanze. Useful links, profiles, stories, curious facts – because behind every set lies hidden a whole world of ideas, visions, desires, where the artist brings his or her personal story to the board and sketches, before our very eyes, how it was formed and the developments (and even the challenges that had to be faced). It’s up to you now to decide on your itinerary and begin to conceptualise how you’ll play between one space and another, amongst the marble of the Palazzo dei Congressi and its breathtaking spaces.
