Sven Väth stays loyal to vinyls!

Posted by | February 22, 2009

The other night I couldn’t sleep and so I watched a few videos until I eventually fall asleep. Slices is always cool to watch at night, great interviews, nice music videos, … Issue 2-07 devotes 45 minutes to Sven Väth, I’ve never been a huge fan of his musical genre ok i did a few times in ibiza but that doesn’t really count, everything is cool on acid but I always got some kind of admiration for the personage! Now that I know he stays loyal to vinyls, I even have some affection ;)

& remember, carrying records is part of the deal!

The mixer of my dreams!

Posted by | February 17, 2009

Since a few months we’ve been thinking about designing and realizing a new mixer. MB & I probably already tried everything available on the market and except customised old school Urei 1620 there’s nothing that really is exciting those days. Some might consider the new Bozak a solid option but so far no one has been able to tell when the first serie will eventually be released. Also there’s a risk this re-edition would be as bad as the Soundcraft 1620LE.

So, let’s dream a bit & imagine we would produce our own mixer. How would it look like? Read more

High Tech Soul

The Creation of Techno Music

HIGH TECH SOUL is the first documentary to tackle the deep roots of techno music alongside the cultural history of Detroit, its birthplace. From the race riots of 1967 to the underground party scene of the late 1980s, Detroit’s economic downturn didn’t stop the invention of a new kind of music that brought international attention to its producers and their hometown.

I got this DVD from Phonica & realy enjoyed watching it last night. So this morning I thought let’s blog about it & I found out this excellent documentary from Gary Bredow is available online (click on read more to see the stream) Read more

OMG! What am I gonna play tonight?

Posted by | February 13, 2009

We’re live on basic tonight, 8pm-10pm, so it’s almost time to sort out a few records. There’s been so much going on over the last weeks that the studio is completely upside down. 12′ are everywhere.

Also I got some great new records from Hardwax & Phonica lately but I barely had time to listen to it yet. I’ve noticed though that the last DJ Mujava: Township Funk Remixes (Warp 267) is a bomb! I’ll go through the rest of deliveries later today or I might also go a get a few more new records. Sun shines in Berlin this morning, there’s been a while since this happens so let’s enjoy it. I guess the studio cleaning will have to wait a bit.

Tune In tonight on basic.ch webradio. The show starts at 08pm Read more
