Lehmann Audio BlackCube Phono Stage
0Posted by DJ-ONE | December 22, 2008Lately I’ve done a major change in my studio setup: I decided to bypass the phono preamps of my Urei 1620 and use new external preamps. This might sound stupid but I grew up with everybody telling me about the legendary sound the original 1620 has and I was really affraid to alter when using an external pre-amplification stage. My generation consider the Urei as a sacred mixer. I know people who use this unit just a phono preamp or to warm up the sound of records they sample for their productions.
Anyway, no risk no fun! So after some talks with the pros at phonophono showroom, we decided the Lehmann Audio BlackCube would sound good with the music I play (mainly electronic).
Back in the studio I’ve done tests for a couple of weeks & WoW! I never imagined such a little box would have that much impact on my sound, this is just fantastic. The sound definition is much better now, I feel there is also more dynamic & a larger stereo. The kick remains fat, but is more precise which I like very much. This little black box really rocks!

Lehmann Audio offers a small range of quality preamps for HiFi. For DJ use I just got the entry level (430€) and it performs already better than I ever expected.
Some technical details:
- Dual mono output stages
- MKPS capacitors (passive RIAA-filter and output)
- Input stages, chosen for their plus of transparency and airiness.
- Chokes in the power supply lines of the audio section for even cleaner supply voltages
- Maximum gain of up to 66dB optimized for the handling of cartridges with a very low output level.
- An additional hard wire slot supplies even more possibilities for special impedances and custom loads.
- Detachable power supply with Neutrik XLR connectors
